Description
We have been experiencing God’s power as we have had a pilgrimage from Resurrection Sunday (March 31) to Pentecost Sunday (May 19). Many of our churches have had revivals and experienced the renewal of Pentecostal power evidenced by the many souls that were saved and filled with the Holy Spirit. We continue to pursue Christ’s Mission and His Righteousness. We thank our Presiding Bishop, Charles E. Blake, who heard God and led us on this Pilgrimage, which has brought us to a greater fullness in God. The Publishing Board has declared this “The Year of the Woman”, therefore for the next two quarters we will study some of the women that God gave to us through his word. Some of these women’s names aren’t familiar to some,, but they were important to the move of God.
Across the nation and around the world the Churches Of God In Christ has made the pilgrimage from Resurrection to Pentecost. Many souls have received the baptism of the Holy Ghost; many have been refilled, renewed, healed and set free. It has been suggested that we continue this quest, and allow God to confirm some more things in our lives. Since the experience of Pentecost always involves human responsibility, let’s look at the journey from Mt. Olivet, to the upper room (Acts 1: 12-14). In the Upper Room abode Peter, James, John, Andrew, Phillip, Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren” (Acts 1:14).
Pentecost was the second great festival of the Jewish year. It was a festival when the first fruits of the grain harvest were presented to God (Leviticus 23:17). In the same manner Pentecost symbolizes, for the church the beginning of God’s harvest for souls in the world. “When the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place…It filled all the house, where they were sitting…(v 4) and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance”(Acts 2: 1–4).
The significance of being filled with the Holy Ghost in this Scripture meant the beginning of the fulfillment of God’s promise in Joel 2:28-29, to pour out His Spirit upon all His people in the end times. This prophesy lets us know that the fulfillment of God’s Word would bring us to a time when it would truly be the year of the man as well as the year of the woman. Let us note, that during a time when men and women were separated, the Holy Spirit brought them together in one place to begin the New Testament Church. God had promised to create “a new thing in the earth, A woman shall compass a man” (Jeremiah 31:22). It would be a time, when your sons and daughters would prophesy, it will be a time when your handmaids will receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and will receive the impartation and release of prophetic gifts. It will be a time when there will not be male nor female workers for God in His Kingdom, only servants.
So, we will look at women in the Bible who were disciples, leaders, workers, helpers, prophetess, or whatever role God allowed them to be in. As we study God’s word, let us pray with open minds to what God will say to us as He prepares us for end-time ministry. THIS IS THE YEAR OF THE WOMAN.
